High Holyday Appeal 2025

High Holyday Appeal

For this year’s High Holyday charity appeal, we have decided on three charities from each synagogue. Your donation will be handled through the congregation of which you are a member, and you can choose to give to any of the six worthy causes. If you do not specify otherwise, it will be divided equally between the three charities chosen by your community. Your congregation will also collect the Gift Aid on your donation. Visitors are encouraged to give through either synagogue and we will contact you in order to claim gift aid if possible.

British Friends of United Hatzalah of Israel. When emergencies occur, rapid medical treatment increases chances of survival exponentially. Using specially equipped motorcycle ambulances, United Hatzalah’s network of more than 8,000 volunteer medics help save thousands of lives each year across Israel by providing medical treatment in an average response time of 3 minutes or less.

Camp Simcha - Supporting Families Across the Community. Our vision is that no Jewish family, anywhere in the UK, with a child affected by serious illness should have to suffer without our support. Our mission is to provide bespoke, unconditional, practical and emotional support to Jewish families where there is serious childhood illness. We bring hope and joy by providing powerful, positive experiences.

Joely Bear Appeal. The Joely Bear Appeal was originally set up to promote the importance of giving blood. We also raise funds to provide facilities to make stays in hospital more comfortable for young cancer patients and their families.  We have, for 30 years, run regular blood donor sessions in our local area, taking over 15,000 donations and facilitating some 45,000+ operations, and in the process, helping save a number of lives.

Our next project is to create a young patients facility at the Royal Free Hospital, to take long stay patients away from the sterile hospital environment, at the same time keeping them safe and secure close to the hospital ward. This follows a similar project we undertook in 2017 at Barnet General Hospital which is still benefitting the patients some eight years later.

Sebby’s Corner supports vulnerable families across London and the Home Counties, including those living in poverty, families escaping domestic abuse, refugees, asylum seekers and victims of modern slavery and human trafficking. They believe every child deserves the essentials they need to thrive. They provide urgent support to families in crisis, delivering items including food, clothing, toiletries, nappies, formula and school uniforms to those who have nowhere else to turn. Our support will help ensure that no child is left behind.

René Cassin seeks to create world where everyone fully enjoys their human rights and the Jewish community is actively engaged in promoting them. Simply put, René Cassin makes human rights relevant for Jewish people and brings a Jewish voice to the human rights dialogue. As well as campaigning to promote and protect universal human rights, they organise events and engage young Jewish people through their work experience and Ambassador leadership programmes. Our support will enable them to continue this important work.

Merchavim, the Institute for the Advancement of Shared Citizenship in Israel, works towards a fairer and more just future for all citizens of Israel. It is dedicated to promoting diversity, inclusion, and greater fairness in classrooms, communities, and society. It aims to help Israel’s citizens of all backgrounds to learn about the other, value diversity, and create a fairer society where everyone has equal opportunities, respect and a sense of belonging. It does so by helping integrate teachers from diverse backgrounds into the school system, and through training, leadership programmes, and social tourism. Our support will enable Merchavim to continue this important work at a critical moment in Israel’s history.
